At Home With The Rudds is a new luxury homeware brand based in the Cotswold, started by artist Samantha Rudd. I worked with the company from the companies launch to create a full brand design covering the website, products, packaging and the physical spaces.
Working from a blank slate gave us complete freedom to create brand guidelines across all areas of the business. On day one we created the logo, working around Samantha’s sketches. From there we working on colour palettes, fonts and photography.
The starting point for the designs were themes taken from Samantha’s artworks. Routed in earthy colours and aspirations of slowness. We used fonts thats matched letterpress prints and looked to film images for inspiration with the photography, always referencing a pre-digital era. This was a theme we found resonated with her audience from her art.
The website runs on Shopify, to manage seamless stock control with the in-store point of sales systems. We created a custom Shopify theme incorporating the new brand design that we’d developed. We concentrated on making the website easy to navigate across all devices. An early challenge was turning a large number of product categories into a manageable menu on mobile devices. Using custom animations for the menu, users are able to quickly move across the website.
The company was developed throughout the national lockdown. This meant working at pace and remaining flexible through changing circumstances. While the priority was to get products on the shelves, it always remained a strong possibility the physical shops could be closed so the digital space was ready to go in that circumstance.
